DDN is thrilled to announce the appointment of Samar Elhussieny to our Board of Directors.

Samar is a distinguished human rights professional with a formidable background in advocacy, international law, and movement building. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Egyptian Human Rights Forum and was previously the MENA Research and Engagement Coordinator at the Centre for the Study of Journalism (CIWJ). Her expertise spans strategic planning, informal education, campaigning, and building powerful civil society movements.

She brings a robust academic foundation to her work, holding a Master’s degree in International Law and Human Rights from the University of Tartu. This has equipped her with a deep understanding of the global frameworks essential for advancing human rights. Further enriching her profile is her hands-on experience in journalism, election observation, and NGO management, which provides her with a unique ability to navigate complex challenges and drive impactful, tangible results.
